Sidney Degarmo, Global EHS Director; Almatis Inc.

 

Sid Degarmo is the Global Director of Environment, Health and Safety for Almatis Inc., the global leader in the manufacture of specialty alumina chemicals used by the refractory, ceramic, automotive, and glass industries. Beginning in 2009 Almatis implemented a global, integrated management system, the “AMS”, which incorporates all business processes within the scope of ISO 9001 and 14001, and OHSAS 18001.

 

Mr. Degarmo's primary focus includes global EHS strategy and compliance, the IMPACT EHS Incident and Customer Complaint system, development of the Almatis Management System, management system audits, commercial product EHS stewardship and REACH. He was the Editor- in-Chief of the AMS system procedures, lead implementation and training, and developed and implemented cross-location audits of the management system and the global EHS business process.

 

A graduate of the University of Missouri at St. Louis with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry, Mr. Degarmo also holds a Master of Science degree in Environmental Health from the University of Cincinnati, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Iowa. He is a Certified Industrial Hygienist, and is interested in leadership, organizational development, action inquiry and action logics, system thinking, and systems development and implementation.
